Quantum computing company IonQ has inaugurated its first dedicated commercial quantum data center in College Park, Maryland, housing multiple trapped-ion quantum processors accessible to enterprise clients through cloud APIs. The facility represents a $150 million investment and is designed to support quantum computing workloads for clients in pharmaceuticals, financial services, and materials science.

The data center houses IonQ's latest Forte Enterprise systems, each featuring 36 algorithmic qubits with industry-leading gate fidelities exceeding 99.7 percent. The company reports that early access customers have already used the systems for molecular simulation, portfolio optimization, and logistics routing applications that demonstrate clear advantages over classical approaches.
