Cerebras Systems, the AI chip startup known for its wafer-scale computing technology, has closed a $1.5 billion Series F funding round led by Abu Dhabi's sovereign wealth fund and joined by several major venture capital firms. The investment values the company at approximately $14 billion, making it one of the most valuable private semiconductor companies in the world.
The funding will be used to expand manufacturing capacity, accelerate development of the company's next-generation chip architecture, and build out a global network of data centers optimized for its hardware. Cerebras says its wafer-scale engine, which integrates an entire silicon wafer as a single chip, offers significant performance advantages for training large AI models.
The investment reflects the intense competition in the AI hardware market, where demand for specialized chips continues to outstrip supply. Industry analysts note that Cerebras is positioning itself as a viable alternative to Nvidia's dominant GPU platform, particularly for customers seeking dedicated AI training infrastructure.
