Microsoft has rolled out a significant update to Windows 12 that deeply integrates its Copilot AI assistant into core operating system functions. The update enables users to control system settings, manage files, automate workflows, and generate content using natural language commands directly from the desktop, taskbar, or any application context.
Key features include the ability to summarize documents by dragging them onto the Copilot icon, automatic meeting note generation from Teams calls, and a smart clipboard that can transform copied content between formats. Microsoft says the update represents the most substantial change to the Windows user interface paradigm since the introduction of the Start menu.
Enterprise administrators will have granular controls over which AI features are enabled in managed environments, addressing corporate data privacy concerns that emerged during early preview testing.
