Samsung has unveiled a prototype foldable laptop featuring a rollable OLED display that can expand from 14 inches to 17 inches with the press of a button. The device, shown at the company's spring product event in San Jose, uses a motorized mechanism to smoothly extend the screen from behind the main panel.
The laptop runs Windows 11 and automatically adjusts its resolution and interface layout as the screen expands or contracts. Samsung says the rollable display technology uses a new ultra-thin glass composite that can withstand over 200,000 extension cycles without degradation.
Industry analysts see the device as a potential game-changer for mobile professionals who need large screen real estate without carrying oversized hardware. Samsung has indicated a commercial version could ship by the holiday season at a price point expected to compete with high-end ultrabooks in the $2,500 to $3,000 range.
