Microsoft has pulled its controversial Recall feature from Windows 11 for the second time after security researchers demonstrated it was still capturing and storing screenshots of banking sessions, passwords, and medical records.
What Happened
- Recall captured screenshots every 5 seconds including sensitive content
- Banking sessions, password entries, medical records all stored
- Data stored locally but accessible to any admin user or malware
- Feature disabled via emergency update
This is the second time Microsoft has been forced to recall Recall — the first was in 2024. Privacy advocates are calling for the feature to be permanently abandoned rather than reworked.
