A coalition including Microsoft, Google, and the Associated Press has launched TrueMedia, a free deepfake detection tool for journalists and fact-checkers that identifies AI-generated images, video, and audio with 97% accuracy.

How It Works

TrueMedia analyzes digital artifacts invisible to the human eye — compression patterns, pixel inconsistencies, and frequency domain anomalies that betray AI generation. Results are returned in under 10 seconds.

Election Impact

The tool launches ahead of the 2026 midterms, when experts predict an unprecedented volume of AI-generated political disinformation. Over 500 newsrooms have already registered.
