Apple has reportedly begun mass production of the Vision Pro 2, its second-generation mixed reality headset, according to supply chain reports from East Asian component manufacturers. The device is expected to launch in September 2026 alongside a significantly lower price point.

Industry analysts anticipate pricing around $1,999, down from the original Vision Pro's $3,499 starting price. The reduction is made possible by manufacturing efficiencies and the use of Apple's newer M5 chip, which integrates more functionality on a single die.

Hardware improvements include a 30% lighter design, extended battery life to 4 hours, and a wider field of view. The display resolution remains industry-leading with micro-OLED panels, and hand tracking accuracy has been improved through additional sensors.

Apple's visionOS 3.0 will launch alongside the hardware, featuring a redesigned spatial app store, improved multi-tasking, and better integration with iPhone and Mac workflows. Third-party developer activity has increased significantly, with over 5,000 spatial apps now available.

The lower price point could be transformative for the spatial computing market. Competitors including Meta, Samsung, and Google are all developing rival products, but Apple's ecosystem advantage and developer tools remain significant differentiators.
